The stronghold of the Islamic State is failing under U.S. airstrikes, as strikes on Sunday and Monday took out militant targets near Mount Sinjar. The Pentagon said destroyed six vehicles near Sinjar and a combat post that was firing on Iraqi troops. 


Iraqi forces were able to retake the city after U.S. airstrikes helped end a six-week long seige of the town by ISIS militants.

Mosul Dam

Iraqi officials said that Kurdish and Iraqi forces had succeeded in retaking Mosul Dam from fighters from the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, although it was unclear whether they had seized control of the entire dam and the surrounding complex.


ISIS stormed a Yazidi village after cutting off the village a week prior, killing an estimated 80 men.
